"Widely accepted" is just another way of saying DEAD WRONG. The fact of the matter is the narrative is changing about who really wrote the Gospels!

When I learned about the Gospels sitting in church 40 years ago, it was taught that Matthew wrote the gospel that bears his name; as did all the others. Now that narrative has changed, as you say.

Oh, now the narrative is "eye witnesses" wrote these books in the names of the people they knew. Okay, WHO was or were the eye witnesses? Nameless, faceless adherents to a story that never actually happened the way some of the books say.

Truth be told, the only Gospel book written by a known author is the Gospel of Luke. Even then Luke was a Gentile (pagan) and part of Paul's renegade sect; he was not part of the Apostolic circle.

So why did Luke's writings get chosen by the early founders of the RCC? And why just the other 3 "gospels" when there were likely dozens floating around by the mid second century when the RCC began their canon?
