Great read, John! While Ezra no doubt had some influence within Torah, one needs to look a bit earlier at the Hezekiah Priesthood who literally re-wrote Torah with their "lying pens" (Jer. 8:8) and GOD telling the now exhiled people that he never required sacrifice in the first place. Sacrifices were the sin (Jer. 7) that was the reason that GOD allowed the nation to be taken over.
“I gave your ancestors no commands about burnt offerings or any other kinds of sacrifices when I brought them out of Egypt. But I did command them to obey me, so that I would be their God and they would be my people. And I told them to live the way I had commanded them, so that things would go well for them.” — GOD, Jeremiah 7:22–23 GNT
