10 Laws the Church Created that are Unconstitutional
Why America is not really a “Christian Nation”
Somewhere between 1776 and today, the Church managed to cement the errant notion that America is a “Christian nation” in the hearts, minds, and legislation of many States within the Union.
Quite a number of laws, ordinances, and even civil policies passed by our great great grand parents’ generations have been overturned or abolished by the courts—not because of Satan—but because of a legal doctrine known as the “Separation of Church and State”.
The issues surrounding the Separation of Church and State are deep, they are numerous, and of course, fraught with controversy as the Church attempts to continue to try to cement their religious dogma into federal, state, and even local legislation.
In a nutshell, the Separation of Church and State is legal construct created by the US Constitution’s First Amendment which states:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof …”
Thomas Jefferson appears to have been the first to coin the phrase “Separation of Church and State” in his letter to the Danbury Baptist Association in Connecticut. It seems that the Church in this instance did not agree with Jefferson’s political actions…
